Bethlehem Star
Our home features a 6' tall Bethlehem Star. The original idea came from Holdman, and the star was such a great addition, we wanted to add it to our home.
Unfortunately I don't have any construction photos, but I will share some tips I learned while completing the project.
As you can see, the C-9 bulbs are recessed into the surface of the tree. This was done to ensure the bulbs would not move around once mounted on top of the house. Given the straight, defined lines, it would be very noticeable if lines were not straight. To get the lights situated like this, I did some tests with various drill bit sizes. I ended up using a 1" bit on the back side and a 7/8" bit on the front side. This allowed the socket to sit approximately 1/2 way into the back of the star. I then went back and used a dremel tool to create a beveled edge where the bulb contacts the wood.
It looks like a bit of a mess on the back side, but the spacing of ~4" between bulbs allows for some sanity while connecting the strands together.
